4/2/04 - Day 1
Houston to College Station
88 miles

Before I start, let me thank everyone for all the going away festivities and gifts I have received over the past few weeks.  Y'all really made me feel special.  I have a lot of great friends that have pulled me through some rough times, and I miss everybody already.

Well, I'm finally on the road.  It has been a mad scramble for the past few weeks to get everything done.  I'm officially homeless, having just sold the condo.  Mike and David, a couple of guys I work with (David is my former boss) took me to the NW side of town and rode the first day with me.  The day went fairly well, no major mishaps.  I did learn, however, that I sweat into my eyes on long bike trips.  My eyes were pretty red by the time I got to C.S., went to WalMart and bought a headband.

Washington on the Brazos was okay, but I have to say it wasn't as great as I was expecting, although I was kind of tired by the time I made it there.  For those of you not up on Texas history, it's where Texas declared Independence and was also the capital of Texas for a short period.  Anyway, I can say I've been there.  Went out to  dinner with Anna and Daniel, the couple that will drive my stuff up next month, and crashed on the couch for the night.
