Day 29 - 4/30/04
Lander, WY to Dubois, WY
77 miles

After I put yesterday's web page up I headed over to Main Street Books in Lander to buy a book to read.  Had a cup of coffee, chatted with a customer (Jim) and the clerk (Ben).  Pretty nice place and a pleasant conversation.  They were both very positive about the book "The DaVinci Code", which is only out in hardback, so I bought a paperback by the same author.

I think I got too well known by the staff at the Maverick hotel.  Later that afternoon the guy who does the housekeeping decided to drop by my room, possibly drunk, and engage me in a 30-minute conversation that primarily consisted of a rant about all the people he dislikes in the world.  Fascinating stuff.

Today was a beautiful day for a ride, and it was great to finally get back on the road.  Saw a lot of wildlife today, wasn't able to photograph all of it.  Rode by a small lake/marsh with dozens of ducks in it.  Saw a rabbit running by, some geese, a hawk spiraling up in a thermal, and the moose in someone's yard.

Was lucky to get a room in Dubois; a big regional pool tournament is going on in town and almost all the hotel rooms in town were booked.  Somehow I resisted the urge to go watch the tournament.

Tomorrow is a big day, as I try and cross my first big mountain pass to get into Teton National Park.
