Pam

Day 31 - 5/2/04
Hatchet Motel to Jackson, WY
51 miles
Jackson, WY to West Yellowstone, MT
0 miles on bike, hitched ride

Went through Grand Teton National Park today.  The Tetons are really spectacular, the pictures can't really capture their magnificence.  Had originally planned to camp in the park, then go on to Yellowstone and camp a day or two there.  Unfortunately, none of the campsites on the route I had are open yet, and the parks don't allow camping on the side of the road.  So, to go through Yellowstone Park to get to lodging would have meant skipping most of Teton Park and going 110 miles in one day over a couple of mountain passes.  I decided I would go through Teton Park to Jackson, and see if I could arrange transportation around to Yellowstone.  Otherwise, it is at least a two-day ride from Jackson to West Yellowstone.

I was just about to walk in to the Visitors Center at Jackson to see if there were any options for transportation when a very nice lady named Pam started up a conversation with me.  She offered to give me a ride up to West Yellowstone.  Pam travels around in a Dodge Caravan with a trailer and supports herself with freelance writing and other miscellaneous jobs.  She is deeply religious and a very interesting person.  She has her own web site at www.americanholocaust.homestead.com.  Rather unusual.
