Day 45 - 5/16/04
Eureka, MT to Fort Steele, BC
69 miles

My stuff
Lubbock, TX to Cortez, CO

Well, I've crossed the U.S. from the Gulf Coast to the Canadian Border (yeah!).  Got a late start today, as I had to replace a broken spoke and it took longer than I expected.  I entered into Canada at about 12:30 CST, which means it took me about 44 days and 4 hours to get across the country.  I am currently at a bed and breakfast in Fort Steele, BC, about 60 miles inside the border.  I guess I should have called in advance, because currently nobody is home and I'm typing this at a picnic table outside.  They have a couple of dogs sitting on the porch and they haven't left any food out, so I'm anticipating the owners will be home later.  I thought Wyoming and Montana were pretty unpopulated, but people are really sparse here.   The scenery continues to be spectacular.  I'm riding along just west of a ridgeline of mountains that I suppose are part of the Canadian Rockies.  Other than getting rained on for about 20 minutes, it was a really great day for riding.  It was sunny and I think the temperature got up to around 70, so I was riding in shorts and short sleeves for most of the day.
