Day 66 - 6/06/04
Muncho Lake, BC to Liard Hot Springs, BC
36 miles

The next stop after Liard Hot Springs is about 90 miles down the road, so I made this a short day.  I have officially left the Rocky Mountains for good (finally!).  I saw a black bear cub today, but it ran into the trees as soon as it saw me, so I took no pictures.  I didn't know where the mother was, so I left the area fairly quickly.

The hot springs are really neat.  They are natural hot springs that have a hiking trail to them, and they are pretty much kept in their natural state.  There are lower (Alpha) and upper (Beta) pools.  I had the upper pool all to myself for about a half hour; it was at about ideal hot tub temperature, very relaxing.  The lower pool was hotter, but cooled down stream.  The water was also clearer and shallower at the lower pool, which made it more popular.
