Well, if all goes well then within a week or so I'll have closed on the
house and moved into my office. The house closing is set for July
29. Furniture is currently moving into the building with my
office, and my computer from LPI arrives Monday. Hopefully I'll
be unpacking boxes in both my home and office within a week.
Currently it is "Golden Days" here which is a celebration of gold being
discovered in the Fairbanks area. Anyway, the Golden Days parade
was held Saturday, so I thought I'd show a few pictures from
that. The parade is billed as the largest in the state. It
was just like a Mardi Gras parade, except for about 1/10 the people, no
alcohol, no beads, and no breast-baring women.
I tried mountain biking with the local bicycle club on one of their
rides a couple of weeks. The techniques and muscles used are
definitely different than road biking. I haven't walked up and
down very many trails as steep and rough as the ones we were going
on. I fell three times on one of the descents. I
managed to hang in there, but I finished the ride nicely bruised and
bleeding. Supposedly that was one of the toughest rides of the
year. I plan on going out with them again this week, so I'll see
how it goes. I'm working out about 5-6 hours a week, which has
not prevented me from gaining back about 10 of the pounds I lost.
Time to quit slacking and start working out seriously again.
My work email is definitely going to be rherrick@gi.alaska.edu, and
that should not change. My home email is going to change because
I'm getting a cable modem with the new house, so for now please
continue using rherrick@ghg.net because the alaska.net address is going
away soon.
Other than that, not much else exciting going on. I've been
getting my movie and DVD fix lately since I was deprived for 3
months. Dodgeball is the best movie of the summer.
